Track of the day #581: Rosie Alena – Mixed Messages

Rosie Alena - Mixed MessagesI wasn’t overly keen on this track to start with as I found it a little too on the folk-y side for my taste… However, I ended up returning to the track various times over the last couple of weeks and it’s really grown on me to the point I’ve ended up with it on repeat.

Mixed Messages‘ is the debut track from South East London based Brit School alumni Rosie Alena (featuring members of Black Midi). It’s an atmospheric, alternative folk track with stunning vocals, dream-pop sensibilities and it’s truly hypnotic.

Speaking of the track, Rosie Alena has said: “‘Mixed Messages’ imitates a feeling of solitude in the extremely hectic city of London; a moment to myself trying to make sense of my thoughts and forgetting the outside world for a moment.”

“The song comes to an end with what feels like a euphoric sense of freedom, but you can make of it what you wish.”

This Saturday Rosie Alena plays Strong Island Recordings All-dayer in London alongside the likes of Mystic Peach, Toothpaste, Barbudo and others (it’s free!) at The Shacklewell Arms. She’ll also be headlining The Wave Maiden in Southsea on 8th February for Strong Island Recordings/Pie & Vinyl and will also be peforming live at Psyched Fest, Portsmouth on 2nd May!
