Track of the Day #815: Novacain – Wasting Time

Novacain - Wasting TimeFormed from the ashes of their previous bands in early 2020, Portsmouth based indie-rock quartet Novacain returned today with probably their best track yet ‘Wasting Time‘. Wearing their influences on their sleeves and taking cues from pop music, Novacain have created an incredibly fun track that’s one of the catchiest I’ve heard in a while.

For some reason the breakdown towards the end of the track heavily reminds me of something that would’ve slotted perfectly in somewhere on one of The Hoosiers first two albums. Other than that, ‘Wasting Time’ is a snappy, riff-filled track thats instrumentation contrasts its lyrical content and is actually quite cheery overall.

Speaking of the track, Novacain guitarist Lloyd Lock has said: “The song is a melancholic reflection on the art of procrastination! It’s basically about looking back at your life so far and evaluating your mistakes in comparison with your achievements.”

“There is a certain element of glorification about wasting time in the song as well, some of these moments where we make the so called ‘wrong decision’ end up creating the best memories. At the end of the day, we are all just ‘wasting time’ regardless of your life choices or your status in society… It’s all about finding the most entertaining way of doing so!”
