Track of the day #776: Mandrake Handshake – Gonkulator

Mandrake Handshake - GonkulatorOxford based psychedelic ten piece (yes!) band Mandrake Handshake recently released this two and a half minute, hypnotic bundle of joy. ‘Gonkulator‘ has its roots firmly planted in 60’s psychedelic rock giving the track a very nostalgic feel. This track even crosses over into more folkier territory than previous releases from the band. ‘Gonkulator’ is Mandrake Handshake’s most concise offering yet as well (the band’s debut ‘Hypersonic Super-Asterid‘ clocked in at almost 9 minutes).

Speaking of the track, Mandrake Handshake have said: “This is our 3 minute party tune, but in swung 5/4 ‘cause who doesn’t love a good 5/4 groove!? It’s a song about sheer joy, happiness and freedom for two and a half minutes and can’t be any longer because it’s too much otherwise!”

‘Gonkulator’ is the first track from Mandrake Handshake to be released since they signed to cult indie label Nice Swan Records, joining other blog favourites on the label such as Hallan, Sprints, Sweaty Palms and more!
