Track of the day #655: IDLES – Grounds

Yesterday IDLES returned with news of their much anticipated, brand new album ‘Ultra Mono’ and along with it, they brought us their latest single ‘Grounds‘. It’s everything you’d expect from IDLES, it’s an angry, fiery and a very much explosive track from the word go. It’s also minimal in ways, especially initially, with industrial synths leading the way. ‘Grounds’ is a track that has lyrical content which addresses issues which are apt for right now with some urgency.

Speaking of ‘Grounds’, IDLES frontman Joe Talbot has said: “We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief – a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in. We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you.”

IDLES third album ‘Ultra Mono’ is set for release on 25th September. Ahead of their album release, the band will play three live-streamed performances from “an iconic studio” on August 29-30th and tickets can be purchased here.
