Let’s Take Five: An interview with DJUNO!

I’ve only ever heard good things about Southampton based alt-rock band DJUNO, but for some reason, I only ended up listening to them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The band are set to play the Wedgewood Rooms for Icebreaker Festival in Portsmouth next week so we thought this was a good time to have a quick catch up with the band regarding the festival, playing live and the future!

Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce DJUNO:

Yo, we’re DJUNO, a 5-piece band made up of Courtney on vocals, Andy and Sim on guitar, Pete on the drums and Toby on bass. We are from Southampton and play our own little version of alt-rock music.

We’re yet to catch you live but are hoping to see you at Icebreaker Festival this year. For anyone, like ourselves, who are yet to see you live, how would you describe a DJUNO gig?

DJUNO at a gig… We are high energy, plenty of jumping and stomping. I like to describe the vibe as moody but energetic. Kinda one of those things that’s hard to explain… You’ll just have to come and see us!

What was the original spark that encouraged you to start creating music together as a band?

We’d all been in bands before DJUNO but when we met at uni, our names got pulled out of a hat and that’s how the band was formed. We then wrote our first song ‘Stop’ and just kept it going from there.

If you could play live absolutely anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

The Moon. Not in the world but that’s the dream!

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs and what have you got planned over the first half of 2020?

We have some tasty new tracks come out very soon! Also we are in London on the 8th February and headlining Cambridge for the first time at The Blue Moon on the 23rd February.

We’d like to thank DJUNO very much for their time! You can check out their latest single ‘Funny Record’ below and also keep up with them on social media via the following links! You can catch DJUNO live at the above mentioned dates as well as at Wedgewood Rooms for Icebreaker Festival, Portsmouth at 15:15 – 15:45 on the 25th January!
