Let’s Take Five: An interview with Juliper Sky!
A few weeks back Manchester based band Juliper Sky released their second single ‘Magnetise‘, a dreamy but also powerful offering and we loved it, even more so than their debut track ‘Heaven’. Following the release of the track we thought it was a good time to catch up with the band regarding their latest single, performing live and the future.
Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Juliper Sky:
We’re a five piece band based in Manchester consisting of Liam on guitar/synth, Dan on lead guitar, Roger on bass, Ben on drums and myself (Jamie) on guitar and vocals. I’ve always found it difficult to explain sound in “genre’s” but I’d say our songs fall into a dream-pop/psych/pop sort of sound, huge dreamy soundscapes with pop melodies over the top.
You recently released your latest single ‘Magnetise’ and we loved it! If you could sum the track up in three words, what would they be?
In my current mood I would say hopeful, intense and euphoric.
For anyone, like ourselves, who are yet to see you live, how would you describe a Juliper Sky gig?
This is something we’re figuring out as a band ourselves! Immersion is something we’re aiming for, this isn’t just a musical gig, it’s a performance. We have currently only played just one show, a headline at The Eagle Inn which we sold out. There was a lot of energy that’s for sure, I remember that every interlude between songs was filled with positive energy and noise, people loved it!
We’ve been dabbling with psychedelic projections and experimental drones too, we want everyone in the audience to feel like they’re in another world for a brief moment in time.
If you could play live alongside absolutely anyone, anywhere in the world, who and where would it be and why?
I’m sure everyone in the band would say someone COMPLETELY different. If I were to choose though it’d be the Australian band Pond. I’m really into them at the moment, I’d love to go to over to their home-country and play with those guys, they seem really cool and aren’t a million miles away from us sound-wise.
Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs and what have you got planned for the remainder of 2019?
We’ve been super busy writing material, recording songs and planning gigs/other things. We don’t have a set date on a show just yet but our next one will be definitely be in Manchester this year. We hope to see as many of you guys there!
We’d like to thank Juliper Sky very much for their time! You can listen to their latest single ‘Magnetise’ below and also check out/follow them on their social media via the following links.
