Let’s Take Five: An interview with Costellos!
The first time I saw Costellos was out of the blue a few years back, in a vault underneath Southampton at Music In The City and was impressed by their energetic live performance. Since then, the band have supported higher profile bands, played at various festivals and released a few singles since. In the run up to their slot at Icebreaker Festival 2018, we spoke to the band about their latest single, gigging in Spain and the future!
Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Costellos:
We’re a four-piece Indie, guitar-driven band based in Southampton. George on lead vocals and guitar, Keiren on backing vocals and guitar, Tomi on drums and Kieran on bass.
You’re latest single ‘Say’ was released back in November. Was there anything in particular that inspired the track?
‘Say’ is mainly inspired by the world that we live in, but I’m sure people will get their own meanings from the song when they listen to it.
You’ve already supported the likes of Blossoms, Bez (Happy Mondays) and The Sherlocks but if you could tour alongside absolutely anyone else, who would it be and why?
That’s a hard one! I’m sure we’d like to tour with some of the bands that have inspired us in the first place. It would be hard to choose! I’m sure the four of us have a long list of bands we would love to support/tour with! Someone like DMA’s would be cool though.
What’s the weirdest gig/tour story you have to share?
Probably our headline show in Spain last year, purely because we had never even heard of Oviedo and so it was all new to us. We had never met the people who put us on so that was also pretty new. It was a great show, busy and the crowd was great, bearing in mind they probably had no idea what we were playing! It was also our first gig under this line up, with Keiren Pearce having it as his first gig! So having that as a first gig is pretty unusual nowadays. We weren’t even using our own instruments either, so all the guitars and everything we had borrowed while we were out there.
Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs and what have you got planned for 2018?
2018 is going to be massive! We have loads of new music to share, plenty of shows in the pipeline as well as other stuff that were pretty excited about. It’s going to be a big year!
We’d like to thank Costellos very much for their time! You can catch them at Icebreaker Festival at the Wine Vaults Stage 1 on Saturday 3rd February at 17:15. You can also listen to Costellos music via Spotify below!
