The first of three tracks taken from the “updated” version of Sundara Karma’s debut album ‘Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect’ is ‘Lakhey’. Although long-awaited, this is a track that I well and truly think would have fitted like a glove on the original released just a few months back. ‘Lakhey’ has the solid underpinnings of a generic indie-pop track with thunderous drumming and jangly guitars, but it’s definitely more than that. With infectious instrumentation and luscious vocals throughout, it’s a track which is a combination of everything that Sundara Karma do best.
Furthermore, ‘Lakhey’ is made complete with a rather bizarre, but simplistic graphic video. On first listen I picked up on various vocal parts which could well have fitted Temples as well as electronic, anthemic instrumentation of White Lies nearer the end. Maybe it’s not anything new, but it’s typically Sundara Karma and it would’ve been a crime if this track had slipped through the net.
