Let’s Take Five: An interview with TRACE.

2016 was an impressive year for TRACE having released her first EP ‘Low’, supporting Mr. Little Jeans on her first tour and even hitting 30 million streams on Spotify. The LA-based indie/electro solo artist’s latest track ‘Oh My My’ which was released earlier this week is the first from a string of tracks set to be released by TRACE across the summer.

We spoke to TRACE regarding her latest single ‘Oh My My’, writing music being a therapy in itself and the future!

Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce TRACE:

TRACEHi, I’m Trace My birth name is Tracy but I wanted to mix it up when it came to music, plus it’s been a nickname that has stuck well with me.

I’m based in Los Angeles, born and raised in Orange County and have been writing music well before having any interest in sharing it out loud ha. The music I try to create ebbs and flows from genre to genre but the core of it I would say is pop. I’ve been called many variations of it and a couple of my favourites have been Bedroom pop and loner pop. Haha.

Your latest single ‘Oh My My’ is set for release shortly! How would you describe your sound/what should we expect from this release?

I’ve said this phrase before when describing  my music but it speaks really true still and especially for this new track. It’s lonely with a beat. But I also hope listeners can expect a hint of maturity in the overall sound, sonically, lyrically, and vocally.

Where did the inspiration behind the track come from?

It initially  came from a brief but intense flirty friendship. But I ended up finishing the song with influences from most of my relationships in the past. It’s the idea of desiring to be wanted even when you yourself have no intention of wanting someone back. Oops!

What originally sparked your interest in creating music?

I think too much. Enough that it makes sleeping a task! Kind of a restless mind (probably by creative choice) but writing soothes my anxiousness – it literally lifts the phantom weight I feel so often because everything and everything affects me. I guess writing kind of saves me.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming tour dates and what have you got planned for the rest of 2017?

This year we will be focusing on new music. We’ll be independently releasing a few singles in the next few months which is crazy and so exciting. Hoping touring and festivals will be a blip on our 2017 calendar but definitely new music!

We’d like to thank TRACE very much for her time! You can hear her latest single ‘Oh My My’ below and follow her on social media via the following links!
