Fresh🌻 : Kasabian – You’re In Love With A Psycho

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, then you’d know that there had been signs of Kasabian’s imminent and long-awaited return including a curious e-mail sent out a few days ago featuring just a lone teardrop.

Mix It All Up, Kasabian, For Crying Out LoudThis morning, the band debuted the first single from their latest album ‘For Crying Out Loud‘ across national radio. I listened to ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’ with sceptical ears the first time around, knowing that with verses as solid as the ones here and with it being Kasabian, it could easily go one way or the other. It was the latter and whereas I’m not as disappointed as I thought I’d be, the track is actually rather lacklustre, with no real energy and just generally bland.

Aside from the verses being to the point and even rather humorous throughout, there’s something amiss somewhere. It just doesn’t have the dynamic, vigorous energy that we all know and love as trademark Kasabian. ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho‘ may be a change in direction, it may be a grower, but if I know anything for certain, it’s just unfortunately dull.

As singles go, it’s far from on par with previous first singles, for example, the likes of Eez-eh (48:13), Switchblade Smiles (Velociraptor!) and Underdog/Fast Fuse (West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum). It definitely doesn’t have the stamina to stand up to the likes of any of the above seeing as it can barely stand up on just the verses alone.

As a Kasabian fan, I’m still intrigued to hear the rest of the album based on this ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’ alone whether or not it turns out to be a disappointment or not. It took me three years to get into ‘Velociraptor!’, maybe this one will be a slow burner too.

Kasabian’s brand new album ‘For Crying Out Loud’ will be released on April 28th with a short run of UK dates in the two weeks running up to the release, including a trio of gigs at London’s Kentish Town Forum.
