Let’s Take Five: An interview with Slow Riot!

Last week, we featured Slow Riot as one of our tracks of the week with their latest single ‘Pink December‘ which was released just a few weeks back. Slow Riot are an Irish, post-punk trio with a sound that is dark, melancholic and yet still dynamic with tracks that could easily stay in your head for days. We’ve been a fan of the band since we first heard ‘Trophy Wife‘ last summer and now that they’ve got a debut album in the works! We decided to speak to them to find out more!

Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce your band…

Niall: Slow Riot are Niall Clancy, Aaron Duff and Paul Cosgrave from Limerick, Ireland.

‘Pink December’, your latest single has just been released! Where did the inspiration behind the track come from?

Niall: This one came together out of nowhere and very quickly. In a lot of our songs I tend to hint at different themes through the lyrics but with this song we wanted to convey them through the instrumentation and atmosphere of the song instead.

Your debut LP is due for release later this year… How is it coming along and what can we expect from this release?

Paul: It’s coming along nicely! Writing is flowing at the moment and we are happy with the progress and level of songs. We will demo some of these in March and hope to record to album in May/June, hopefully for release in September. We are in no rush and want to make sure the album represents where we are and what we want to achieve as a band.

Where is somewhere you would love to play, but haven’t yet?

Aaron: We all love playing live so anywhere really, we definitely want to take ourselves outside of Ireland and the UK as we haven’t played beyond there yet. We’re still writing the album so we are not playing live at the moment. But once we’re out of the studio and the album is finished, we’re all going to be eager to hit the road as soon as possible to play as far and wide as we can.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding what you’ve got planned for the rest of 2017?

Aaron: Now that Pink December is out there we’re going to head into our rehearsal space and write for the album and get it out this year. The album is our primary focus right now and all our energy is going into it. That being said we might have a trick or two up or sleeve yet. We just launched our new website and we’re giving away our Cathedral EP for free download too.

We thank Slow Riot very much for their time! You can listen to the band’s latest single ‘Pink December’ below and also purchase it here. We’re looking forward to the band’s debut album and will be sure to keep you posted later in the year!
