Let’s Take Five: An interview with Mystic Peach!

Mystic Peach are one of South’s most exciting bands of the moment. Already won over by their debut single ‘Downtown’ back in 2017, we were lucky enough to see the bands intense live performance twice last year and by the time their latest single ‘Across The Pond’ was released, we were well and truly sold.

We caught up with Mystic Peach before their headline appearance at Icebreaker Festival this Friday to chat about playing live, their latest single and the future!

Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Mystic Peach:

We’re 3 irrelevant people who found relevance in each other and decided to play music. We like irrelevant bands, mainly anything before 2010 and that has guitars, bass and drums in them, found influence from them to hopefully make music that is relevant to people now. We’re from surrounding areas of Southampton/Fareham.

You’re set to headline The Fat Fox at Icebreaker Festival towards the end of the month. For anyone who is yet to see you live, what can they expect from your set?

Obnoxiously loud as we’re all deaf… If the sound man leaves us to our own devices that is!

We really enjoyed your last single ‘Across The Pond’ and it was one of our favourite tracks of the year! Was there anything in particular that inspired the track?

Just the lack of societal movement really, mistaking non-fiction for fiction, just accepting corruption as fact… List goes on. If you like Donald Trump then you won’t understand basically, not that we’re political.

What’s the weirdest gig/tour story you have to share?

We almost messed up our first day of recording once… So, after Joe and Jimi drove for 3 hours, we turned up to our temporary home. We all agreed that we’ll have a couple of beers, have a nutritious dinner of four packets of crisps each and have an early night. Anyway, as 5am approaches, I get up to go to the bathroom. What greets me is a naked Jimi standing outside the bathroom (no one’s in there) and incapable of speaking, we just nodded at each other, almost like distant handshake in agreement that we’ve… Misjudged the situation. We turned up at the studio, on 3 hours sleep and still drunk… Our producer knew something wasn’t quite right.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs/new music and what have you got planned for the rest of 2019?

Gig more, smoke less, record, write some more songs if we have to and… Don’t die.

We’d like to thank Mystic Peach very much for their time! You can check out their latest single ‘Across The Pond’ and also connect with the band via the social media links below. If you’re heading to Icebreaker Festival this weekend be sure to catch the band headlining The Fat Fox on Friday 25th January at 10pm!
