Flowvers are one of Portsmouth’s youngest, but brightest upcoming bands who are yet to release their first single. We spoke to the band about gigging, Portsmouth music, ripping off The Stone Roses (in their words!) and the future!
Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Flowvers:
FLOWVERS are a four-piece dream pop x indie creation formed in November 2016. Being from Portsmouth we felt that there wasn’t any mega successful music out there, but over the year that we’ve been gigging, we’ve noticed that there are actually loads of class bands out there, they just need to be heard. So just tryna’ raise the fog as it were.
You just played your first headline show at the Edge of the Wedge the other night and you’re back to play Wedgewood Rooms for Icebreaker Festival next month. For anyone, like myself, who’s yet to catch you live, what can we expect from your set?
We take inspiration from bands such as The Cure, The Stone Roses, Jaws, Sonic Youth and Ride with (we’d say) a hint of shoegaze. So expect a lot of noise, a lot of energy and some dreamy melodies!
What was the spark that originally encouraged you to start creating music as a band?
All of our music taste is very versatile so we each bring something very specific to the band, but we’re just four mates who love our city, culture and music. Also being in full time education gives us a different outlook to being.
If you could tour alongside one famous band/musician (alive), who would it be and why?
Playing to warm up for the ‘Roses to one of their crowds would be such an experience as we’ve all got a connection with their music one way or another. We’ve ripped them off enough so might as well return the favour to its own crowd 😉
Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming gigs and what have you got planned for 2018?
After a year and a half of rehearsing and gigging we’re finally ready to release our first single’s which should come out at some point this year. To follow that up we’ve just announced our headline show on the 13th April at Wedgewood Rooms.
Also we have two gigs coming up in London with one being at 229 Venue emerging on 17th February and a headline gig at 02 Islington Academy 2 on 17th March.
We’d like to thank Flowvers very much for their time! You can listen to the band’s demos on Soundcloud below the social media links. In addition to the above listed gigs, you can also catch them at Icebreaker Fest at Wedgewood Rooms at 17:35 on Saturday 3rd February.
