Let’s Take Five: An interview with Two Islands

Listening to Two Islands debut track ‘Heaven‘, you’d never believe that it’s the only release that the duo have got under the belts as of yet. In hope that this dazzling, contagious pop track is the first of many that Two Islands will release, we decided to catch up with the band! We chatted with them to find out more about the track and see what they’ve got planned for the future.

Hi there! Firstly, so that our readers can know a bit more about you, please introduce Two Islands:

two islands mix it all up interviewWe’re Two Islands. We’ve always felt as if we existed on our own island, like outsiders looking in. Taking musical cues from the classic songwriting synonymous with Liverpool but dressing our songs in a modern and unique way; we’re aiming to follow in the lineage of Northern bands whose originality and creative ambition have helped to alter our perception of what is possible in pop music.

We were really impressed by your first track ‘Heaven’ which was released a few weeks back and are looking forward to hearing more from you! Were you listening to anything in particular around the time you were writing/recording of the track or was it influenced by outside sources?

It’s an old song that’s been through many incarnations and ‘Heaven’ describes the euphoria of finally arriving at a sound that best represents us. I remember we were listening to Echo & the Bunnymen’s ‘Ocean Rain’ a lot around the time we wrote the track.

What would you say the most rewarding thing about writing/playing music is?

Music helps us to escape the mundanity of everyday life.

If you could work with any band or artist on a new song, who would it be and why?

New Order, as they inform the type of music we want to make as Two Islands.

Finally, have you got anything to share regarding upcoming tour dates and what have you got planned for the rest of 2017?

Tour dates will be revealed soon! ‘Heaven’ is the first marker ahead of a stream of output to come this year!

We would like to thank Two Islands very much for their time and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them. You can hear their debut track ‘Heaven’ below via Soundcloud and also follow Two Islands on social media via the following links.
